The original thatched house was built by the Voortrekkers (Frontiersmen) in 1838 and served as a pony post during the Anglo Boer War.
An expansive front lawn, where countless gymkhanas, and games of hockey, cricket, touch rugby, catch, and horses have been played. A small gate at the edge of the lawn is on the edge of the river bank, and leads into a lovely walk along the river in the shade of poplars, white stinkwoods, and river willows.
A cosy Pub is the venue for pre- and after-dinner cocktails – with raconteur Mike regaling many tales. On fine summer evenings it is lovely to sit out under the towering pines planted by the Voortrekkers.
